Hunter Stadium.
Hunter Park (previously the Hunter Sports and Entertainment Precinct) is a 63ha site located adjacent to Broadmeadow Station and 5km from the Newcastle CBD. Hunter Stadium and the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Showground are part of the broader precinct that features a mix of facilities including sports grounds and other open space used for a variety of sports including hockey, touch football, tennis, basketball and harness racing.
Presently, the site is underutilised and assets are past their useful life with ageing community infrastructure requiring significant renewal. This is in addition to a significant reduction in event bookings at the Entertainment Centre due to poorly maintained facilities.
Roger led an INSW Gateway Review assessing plans to redevelop the site to provide a national standard sporting and entertainment precinct supported by medium density and mixed-use development to ensure maximum activation, using appropriate asset recycling to offset the cost of the required infrastructure upgrades.
